MISO’s Dead Bus Logic was recently discussed at the joint MSC and RSC meeting on 10/1/2020 (Item 02 August 27 Max Gen Emergency Pricing). Dead Bus Logic is the process that assigns LMP prices to electrically disconnected EPnodes in the MISO market. The current logic has been in place since 2012 and there has been little stakeholder discussion of the logic since then. In addition, based on the impact of the Dead Bus Logic during Hurricane Laura (8/27/2020), it can have a significant impact on settlements. Therefore, given the time that has passed since the current Dead Bus Logic was put in place and the potential for significant impact, it seems prudent for MISO and stakeholders to undertake a review of MISO’s Dead Bus Logic in the near future. Implementation timelines need to be coordinated with the MISO EMS upgrade project.
