MISO’s June 2022 presentation to its Board of Directors stated that “The MISO Region is on the front edge of insufficient supply and coordinated action is needed to ensure sufficient resources with accredited attributes are available throughout the fleet transition.” Efforts to ensure energy and capacity sufficiency continue, but changes to the supply of other essential resource attributes are insufficiently understood to ensure reliability given the level of resource retirements expected.
The MISO region is experiencing continued resource transition acceleration and tight system conditions which are expected to endanger reliability and market efficiency. Increased understanding of required system attributes and their associated magnitude and timing will help ensure reliability and sufficient attribute maintenance of the bulk electric system.
Efforts on this issue will occur in separate tracks for incorporation into existing products vs. new products. Issue tracking is currently following incorporation into existing products. The timeline may shift to reflect completion of Market System Enhancements as needed.
