In the last three years, hundreds of projects totaling 100+ gigawatts of generating capacity have entered MISO’s generator interconnection queue. A considerable number of these projects enter the queue prematurely, to evaluate commercial viability, knowing they could withdraw from the queue without incurring any significant financial impacts.
The 2016 Queue Reform focused primarily on improving timing and certainty for Interconnection Customers; and significantly improved MISO’s interconnection process, especially in its later stages. However, in the time since those reforms were implemented, MISO has identified several areas that are affecting the interconnection process. In 2018, MISO focused its efforts on addressing issues that were affecting primary stages of the three phase DPP process.
