Mission Statement

Managing transfers across MISO’s RTO and non-RTO seams is critical to maintaining reliability, improving resilience during extreme events, and ensuring the delivery of the most economic power to serve customer load in each region.  MISO participates in various forums to update stakeholders on its interregional activities and seeks stakeholder input and direction on the identification and prioritization of seams initiatives.

Seams Guiding Principles:

• Maximize use of the transmission system to its physical limits to maintain reliability and minimize cost to end-users through a common understanding of transmission usage
• Ensure there is sufficient transmission to enable reliable and efficient operations for the current and future resource portfolio
• Utilize efficient market mechanisms to manage seams congestion and inter-market transactions
