Andre Porter is senior vice president, chief strategy officer and general counsel for the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). As a member of MISO's senior leadership team, he helps develop and execute MISO’s strategy for operating the electric grid reliably and efficiently amidst the dynamic evolution driven by clean energy goals. Porter supervises teams responsible for strategy, business planning, enterprise risk management, legal, federal affairs, and board governance.
Porter joined MISO as vice president and general counsel in 2016 and was elected by the board of directors to serve as corporate secretary in 2018. He became senior vice president and general counsel in 2022 and took on the additional responsibility of chief strategy officer in 2023.
Before joining MISO, Porter was the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), where he led the regulation of investor-owned utility companies. Prior to PUCO, he was the director of the Ohio Department of Commerce where he was the state’s regulator for banking, securities brokers, liquor control, and industrial compliance. Prior to Commerce, Porter was a commissioner at PUCO. He began his career as an energy and real estate taxation attorney with Schottenstein Zox & Dunn in Columbus, Ohio.
Porter serves on several boards, including as a public company director for First Financial Bancorp (Nasdaq: FFBC), he is the past Board chair at Capital University, and is a trustee for the Center for Performing Arts located in Carmel, Indiana. He holds a juris doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and a political science degree from Capital University.
