CARMEL, Ind. — MISO recently updated the “Response to the Reliability Imperative” report, which identifies primary threats to grid reliability in the MISO footprint and outlines MISO’s initiatives to address those risks. The accompanying MISO Roadmap provides visibility into the prioritization and timing of the work needed within markets, transmission, operations and the technology systems that serve as their foundations.
“Due in large part to decarbonization goals set by our members and the states in our region, our resource fleet is increasingly reliant on intermittent and weather-dependent resources,” said Wayne Schug, vice president of strategy and business development at MISO. “As this trend continues in the future, MISO needs to evolve the grid, our markets, and our operational capabilities, which is just as complex as it sounds.”
The MISO Roadmap, included in this report, lays out MISO’s strategic priorities and the path forward over the next two years to address the urgent challenges we face. The MISO Roadmap provides a user-friendly and transparent way for stakeholders to stay apprised of the strategic priorities and collaboratively discuss items on the roadmap through the Stakeholder Process.
“We organized our Response to the Reliability Imperative to target the work that will improve our day-to-day processes. This allows MISO to drive toward addressing the complex and urgent challenges facing our industry,” said Todd Hillman, senior vice president and chief customer officer at MISO. “The MISO Roadmap will help guide us as we continue working with our stakeholders to develop solutions to meet these challenges and maintain reliability.”
The report, which is an update to the original report published in December 2020, confirms the urgency and importance of the Reliability Imperative, identifies extreme weather as an additional driver, and highlights accomplishments MISO has made over the past year. The complete report is available on the MISO website.
