CARMEL, Ind. — The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) continued to build on its vision to be the most reliable, value-creating regional transmission organization in 2021, delivering between $3.0 billion and $3.8 billion in benefits to the region.
“MISO’s Value Proposition is key to our mission and is reflective of our collective efforts to deliver reliable, cost-effective electric power across our entire region,” said MISO Chief Executive Officer John Bear. “We remain focused on providing value to our members and stakeholders by supporting their goals and objectives.”
MISO’s value proposition analysis identifies and quantifies several value drivers for the region, including more efficient use of existing resources, improved reliability and compliance, and a reduction in need for additional assets. The annual value proposition studies reveal that MISO’s regional approach has delivered cumulative benefits of $36.3 billion to the region since 2007. The benefits accrued annually by MISO members are estimated to be more than ten times MISO's operating costs.
Among all value proposition components, the largest contributors for 2021 include:
“Our grid is changing at a rapid pace and MISO is working closely with our member utilities to better understand how their plans will impact the MISO grid,” added Wayne Schug, MISO vice president of Strategy and Business Development. “We are committed to ensuring MISO’s value proposition evolves and aligns with the changes impacting our members and MISO.”
