MISO’s MTEP24 transmission plan is making history as the largest transmission portfolio ever undertaken in the United States. This ambitious plan covers 488 projects stretching more than 5,000 miles across 15 states. These projects include local reliability improvements, the Long Range Transmission Planning (LRTP) Tranche 2.1 initiatives, and Joint Targeted Interconnection Queue (JTIQ) projects with Southwest Power Pool (SPP).
MTEP24 is part of MISO’s ongoing effort to adapt the grid for the future as part of its Reliability Imperative. With energy demands and resources evolving rapidly, these projects are designed to keep the lights on for 45 million people—both today and for decades to come.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s included:
MISO’s CEO, John Bear, stressed the urgency of acting now to address the changing energy landscape. Vice President Aubrey Johnson also highlighted the importance of LRTP projects in ensuring the grid remains reliable for years to come.
The MTEP24 plan reflects a monumental collaborative effort. Over 300 stakeholder meetings brought together MISO members, stakeholders and staff to create a robust plan.
This landmark investment is more than just a response to today’s challenges—it’s a proactive step toward a more reliable and resilient energy grid for future generations. To dive deeper into the details, check out the full MTEP24 report.
