When Abdul Mohammed joined MISO in 2012, analytics wasn’t his thing. It is now. And he’s certainly making a name for himself!

“It’s a great honor and certainly not something I expected,” said Mohammed after finding out he was named one of Utility Analytics Institute’s (UAI) top 25 thought leaders for 2023.

UAI, a utility-led membership organization, is dedicated to advancing the analytics profession for individuals and utility organizations of all types. Each year, the organization recognizes top analytics leaders, teams, and organizations that have achieved and maintained excellence through innovation. UAI considers its Top 25 Thought Leaders as industry ‘influencers.’

Data analytics is something Mohammed fell into during his MISO journey. Since joining the grid operator, he has held roles in engineering, operations, planning, compliance, and process and performance. An opening on the data analytics team lead him to enroll in an executive data analytics program at MIT that introduced him to how different industries across the globe apply data analytics to the work they do. Since then, he hasn’t looked back. Today, Mohammed directs a team responsible for data analytics, advanced analytics and data standards.

“I love working in the data analytics field,” said Mohammed. “It’s all about solving complex business problems and thinking outside the box.”

His passion for the work resulted him in joining UAI as a member and beginning in 2024 he will join UAI leadership and serve a 2-year term on its strategic advisory board.
