Volunteer Spotlight: Jason Rowland Balances Control Room Operations with Leading Scouts
Karen King - 04/21/2025

MISO's Community Service Resource Group is celebrating National Volunteer week by recognizing our top volunteers. We invite you to learn more about our employees who are making a positive impact in our communities.

Jason is a proud father of four children, ranging from age 16 to 29. When his kids expressed interest in scouting, he felt compelled to join them on their journey. For the past 18 years, he has been an active scout leader and has no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Throughout his time in scouting, Jason has taken on several leadership roles, beginning as a Den Leader in Cub Scouts. Other leadership roles include popcorn kernel, committee member, committee chair and merit badge counselor. He sees scouting as an opportunity for scouts to learn life skills and he enjoys being a mentor to help scouts complete merit badges.

Jason is a senior operator on the systems operations team in Carmel. While his control room schedule is structured and predictable, his team members are flexible and willing to switch shifts so he can attend scouting events. With the encouragement of his manager, he uses his MISO paid volunteer time to support the scouting summer camp.

Studies show that 50% of the time parents spend with their children is before the age of 18. Jason sees this as an opportunity to maximize the time spent with his children before adulthood and allows him to help other scouts along the way. Scouting has also provided lifelong friendships with adults and scouts.

Jason encourages MISO employees to take advantage of the 48 hours MISO provides to volunteer with organizations that pique their interests. Along with his MISO hours, Jason logs his outside-company hours to earn MISO swag and help achieve our 4,321-service hour goal for 2025.

Thank you to Jason for demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the community through scouting. We are thankful for his passion to lead scouts, and appreciate the extra effort taken by his team to accommodate his schedule.
